An open MRI machine is completely open on all four sides, making it much roomier, more quiet, and patient-friendly. With an open MRI scanner, the claustrophobic element of MRI scans is greatly reduced. Unlike closed MRI machines that require patients to remain encapsulated in a small dark tunnel, patients receiving an open MRI are able to see into the MRI room on all four sides. In fact, our MRI machine is so open that patients may even have a close friend or family member sit right by their side during the entire exam. An Open MRI scan machine is built to optimize patient comfort. Exclusive to Encino Open MRI, patients can now choose to watch a movie during their scan using our new Medical Visors and glasses.
While the essential technology used to scan patients is the same, closed “High-Field” MRI machines do have a more powerful magnetic field that delivers better resolution. Open MRI scanners, however, are still able to capture detailed high-quality images. Both open and closed MRI machines will have a negative reaction metal. Always consult your doctor first before deciding whether or not an open MRI is the best option for you.
Our Radiologists
At Encino Open MRI, our radiologists are board certified specialists skilled at interpreting digital MRI images and will collaborate with your physician to determine a diagnosis and treatment plan. MRI scans can be used to discover serious diseases and traumatic injuries like cancer, brain tumors, pinched nerves, blocked blood vessels, and herniated discs, or less severe conditions like simple bone fractures. With the inside view that an MRI scan provides, your doctor will be better able to determine the cause of symptoms and get you on a successful treatment plan.
